I was going to write today about Eddie Van Halen and his rehab, and how terrible he looks, but I couldn't find the words. The last photo I dug up of him, he looked more like "Eddie" from the Iron Maiden Covers and less like Eddie Van Halen. It is a horrible sight to see... He shows the unmistakable look of Crystal Meth abusers... But I'm not going to blog about it all really since I really don't know what to say about it... like I said, I just can't find the words... but how sad. I mean I know he's like 52 but he really looks scary! David Lee Roth doesn't look much better either... Aaauughhh! It's all so disturbing really.
But, since I decided not to mention Eddie, I was looking through some YouTube stuff. I ran across the following video. It's funny to see how they used to have commercials for cigarettes... even funnier to me that The Flintstones were part of the act--Although I am not a smoker, and do not advocate it for you, I still had to giggle at this old black and white Flintstones t.v. spot.
That Frontline special on Meth was quite good. Of course, my mother called me in a panic over this:
"Is the Amezcua cartel still active?
It's hard to say. I've spoken to US officials who believe that despite the fact that the Amezcua brothers are in prison, that their organization remains active. Six of the major cartels in Mexico now have been linked, either by U.S. or Mexican authorities, to the production of meth. …"
You see, the name mentioned in the episode is near and dear to me... It is the reason it took over 6 months for someone very close to me to get a passport... If you mention that name to a Mexican immigrae in our location, they give you a look of guarded caution and will never mess with you...
I just read that Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Eddie wasn't there for the ceremony because he just entered rehab and David Lee Roth stayed away because he was unhappy over what song he could perform.
I hope Eddie sticks with the rehab and really gets some help.
"Tastes good, tastes good, like a cigaretee should!" LOL! That is just too funny! Fred and his smokes! What were they thinking???
As for Eddie, him and I have had a bit if an issue ever since Dave left the band.
However, given his current status, I wish him well.
I'd rather NOT see any of them on tour though. Let me die without having to see the elderly version of Van Halen take the stage. Diamond Dave was an AMAZING performer, one whom I myself strived to be like...getting old sucks and neither of them have done it well! Classic VH was like no other band...they broke new ground and have weathered the tests of time. I'd rather have that thought emblazoned on my mind then the sad, beaten image they portray now.
Don't even get me started on the thought of Eddie's 15 year old son playing Bass for them...he might be amazing, but no one can replace Michael Anthony and his Jack Daniels Bass guitar!

Eddie V. is looking a bit like Eddie from Maiden these days. Maybe they qualify to be "Seperated At Birth".
I have always loved Far Side cartoons... this one about Potato Salad going bad was one of my favorites. Just the mental image of spoiled food pulling a gun gives me a giggle. Larson rules. However, bad food in the fridge is sometimes no laughing matter. I recently let some broccoli sprouts go beggin' and they tried to take the entire household hostage, guests and all. Funny thing about broccoli sprouts, they are against guns and drugs, and totally for Animal Rights but they carry tazers. It's really confusing, and a lesson hard learned. :) So anyway, yeah another make up post I did for yesterday. So sue me... not that it makes a big impact. We've had internet connection problems, which are still ongoing. The technician arrived in decent time and said our equipment was o.k., and that there had been an issue going on in our area, here and there... they were working on it. Maybe it will be resolved soon. I sure hope so, it's just agitating and it goes down at the worst tim...
Yes, I think I will just claim 15 again, and stay there. Looking back, my teen years were worry free. I mean, there was the bi-weekly broken heart and all, but geez. It was a time when people said, "You've got your whole life ahead of you." and it was still true... wait, well it's still true, just now there is less of it ahead of me. That's all. No, I actually didn't get a cake, or any kind of party... Didn't really care. Basically, I just took off two extra days and treated myself to a 4 day weekend in honor of my birthday. Today, June 22nd is the actual date. However, my honorary "celebration" of it began when I got off work Friday night. We met up with some friends at the Midtown Sekisui, and then came home to watch a few more episodes of "Weeds", a tv series that many of you are probably familiar with, one that my 'ol' man' got me hooked on. Finally we have finished the series thanks to Netflix Streaming , and can await...
For those of us who are a slave to the grind, we've almost made it through another work week, that's a great blessing! For those of you who don't have to report to anyone for your paycheck, well it's another beautiful day, so enjoy! Richie went back to work today after Monday's oral surgery, still felt a bit loopy he said but all-in-all it has been a swift recovery. I'm glad... I did the best I could to take care of him. So the weekend is in sight, and I'm trying to think of fun things to do. It's so hot weather-wise, and I don't mean to complain but I hate feeling sweaty and smelly. I like being pleasantly fragrant and sassy. Nothing much to report otherwise, so I will let you go with a few cute graphics about the heat, one of which I stole from BBC's blog again (he always has the funniest cartoons). So there you go. Happy Thursday. v
