Weekend Drain

Image
So the weekend was o.k., and of course not long enough. Friday night, we had birthday stuff to do, met up with my drummer, his birthday was April 9th, and then a friend of Richie's had a birthday coming up (today actually), so we made an appearance at their birthday celebrations as well. I weathered the crowd well enough, even though I don't usually like crowds with many people that I don't know, it makes me uncomfortable, but I was o.k. Speaking of birthdays, I was just peeking at the April 13 date on Wikipedia , just out of curiosity and saw these notable April 13th Birthdays: Peabo Bryson, Rick Schroeder, and Al Green Peabo , of course everyone should know, if not for romantic nights spent with his albums, then quite a number of songs from the Disney classics such as "Beauty and The Beast", and "Whole New World" from Aladdin. He's done duets with the likes of Roberta Flack, and others. Rick Schroder , who hasn't sang anything that I know of bu...

No Sweat, It's Hump Day

Image
We've made it to Wednesday, and so far-so good on my daily posting for November for NaBloPoMo . I was reading about Wednesday on Wikipedia , and found the following: An English language idiom for Wednesday is "hump day" a reference to making it through to the middle of the work week as getting "over the hump" (as most everyone knows already). It is also informally referred to as "the peak of the week". Another popular tradition in the United States is to wear a sweater vest on this mid-week business day. This has led Wednesday to be referred to as Vestday. Woah.. wait a second: A "sweater vest"?!? Did I miss the memo on this one? I haven't seen anyone in a sweater vest since maybe Dr. Cliff Huxtable in the Cosby Show? Even then I never liked sweater vests... Just something about them. Still, I have never heard this thing about "Vestday"... I've only heard of "Hump Day". So in honor of hump day, I'll give y...

Much Ado About Monday

Image
Lots of upset people today with the outcome of the 'Superbowl', and the commercials and seemingly the entertainment too. To each his own. I didn't have much of a vested interest in the teams this year. I liked the Steelers last year, but being around Memphis, we've been waiting for the Titans to make a comeback for a while. Doesn't seem like it's in the cards. At any rate, today it was back to the grind. Mondays always get me down (not Rainy Days though, because I love rain). Since we had a snow day Friday it felt like a holiday so that kind of threw me off... wasn't ready to get back to it I guess, although I feel like hiding my head. I don't have any good stories really today; I hope to bring one in soon. I think I'll go ahead and tell the tale of the day I took my niece, Kristie along with my college roommate Tracy to the Mall and we had a strange encounter with what Kristie is convinced was a 'Modern-Day Ted Bundy' character who she says ...

Onward and Upward

Image
We're all feeling it, right? Getting back to reality and still feeling lagged after the holidays, some of us, like me, not feeling so hot. Lots of people have been sick lately. I'm still trying to catch my second wind, and have battled some sinus pains with our weather fluctuations, seems everyone stays ill around here... Lovely, lovely Memphis. It's dangerous out there, everywhere, so no matter what neighborhood you're passin through, be careful and show em who's boss! After all of the regurgitation of holiday muck, how could anybody even think about 'how many days until Christmas'? But some evil thing made me look. So I can now tell you that as I write this, there are 355 days until Christmas. { sigh... deep breath } Ok, enough's enough right? :) We're all in it together with high hopes of this year being far greater than the last year. Maybe it will not dissappoint, we'll try to think positive anyways. Thinking positive is supposed to be the ...

Awareness Is Good, Right?

Image
Sometimes we wish there was a little more awareness... but it's not gonna happen, let's just face facts. Still, i'm always willing to do my part... put in my 2 cents worth of "useless trivia". I know, you haven't had your dosage of useless Aunt Jackie facts in a while... I've had some half-way original and entertaining thoughts, but for the last couple of days I've been at a loss and otherwise busy getting work done. That's right, me... it is hard to believe eh? :) So let's have some awareness... The United States, being probably one of the most over-indulgent nations, maybe even the fattest-I'm not sure(?). However, once overindulgence takes over, then the time comes that a group of concerned do-gooders must step in to attempt to make others "aware" of an issue or problem. Today, is one of those fine days in the U.S. I give you: National Methamphetamine Awareness Day [my question--do I get a day off for this? And are there any...
