Rude Awakenings

Image
A couple of weeks ago, I made a very half-hearted attempt at reanimating my Strength Training routine... I lifted weights one night, and then let nearly another two weeks follow without so much as a bicep curl. So last night, I got Mr. J to write up another routine for me to try and I began again. I started out with Chest Press, followed by Bench Rows, Pull-Overs and finally Military Press. Most of these were 5 sets of 5 reps each (give or take). I am slightly sore today but for the most part, I usually get most sore the 2nd day after for some reason. However, I did drink Surge by 'Biotest' (not Surge the soft drink) afterward. That is a product that has protein as well as BCAA's (Branched Chain Amino Acids) , and the right type of sugars necessary for fast muscle recovery. Good product, if you are into strength training, lifting, body building, or whatever, I highly suggest trying any of the Biotest Laboratories products. Not to make this a total lesson in muscle and st...

If I Had A Nose Full Of Nickels

Then I'd be Richer than Snot, right? lol or well, at least richer than I was with a nose full of snot. I have improved some, I am still having hard nights, waking up coughing and all, but it is getting a little better. The gig Saturday night was tough. Nobody showed up of course, and the only people that WERE there were Ubee's employees and some college kids at the bar shouting "METALLICA!!!" AND "RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS!!" at us. It was a little disconcerting, but I marched on, vocally speaking. We don't play Metallica, we don't play the Chili Peppers, We're NOT a cover band. Presently we've nothing but originals in our set (this is exceedingly rare). When you're a band that is not that well known, your originals are basically considered nothing but "art", and nobody really wants to come out and hear them. "Art" does not book shows, or draw much of a crowd. Memphis is a place where people want to hear the familiar, the ...

Are We Ready?

Yeah, looks like I got lazy and took another break, but it truly was still quite a busy work week for me, there have been so many issues and deadlines I've been worrying over. Not that many people are missing me, I only have a handful of regulars sometimes, and not nearly as many comments as the rest it seems, or as I would like. But I guess I have to religiously get around to comment on alot more blogs to gain them myself... Sometimes it's just hard, so I will try not to beg or complain. My blog's not that ground breaking, and it's honestly not for everyone, so I have learned from past experiences. Tonight we gig... opening up for a band called "Virginia Grant", they know how to rock out. We will probably play for about an hour. I'm honestly not really that pumped up about the gig, and otherwise, I would feel like staying in the house and vegging out in front of some movies or something. It's not the band, Virginia Grant dudes are cool, and they actua...

Gig's Up

Image
South Park gig went well Friday night, and I appreciate everyone who was in the area and attempted to make it out... The support of friends and family is very important, and does make a difference. Means alot to us. I'm not feeling like a long post, so I will just give you a quick run-down. We started playing sometime between 9:30 and 10:00, and we split it up into two sets, just like we did at Stage Stop last time. We had some new faces, and also some familiar faces. Richie's friends, Justin, Zack, Lev and some of Richie's coworkers came, and from my end, really just Glenda and Byrd... I appreciate that, and was glad to see them. Others attending were acquaintances of our Bass players, so we made new friends and fans. It was a sweaty set, we were outdoors and There were insects abound. I sprayed myself down with Mosquito repellent and gave it my all. We were attacked by a Locust after the first couple of songs, and I just make a quip into the mic, "He must've not ...

Tired

What to do... hmmm, weekend recap? Thursday nightmare: Richie started drinking margaritas early, after work, and an argument ensued with a good friend of mine over something that was said. It turned into a bad night, and I felt awful for this friend having to go through it since I only wanted to have a little coffee and some girl chat... But that's why I just lovvveeee alcohol. You never know what kind of hell it will put you through before the night's over. We made it through that, fortunately. I don't quite want to go into all the details of the ridiculous causes, I'm just sorry it was such a bad night for everyone involved and all. So... some other time perhaps. Friday, the 4th was spent pleasantly at my parents' house... we had a nice visit, and had my Mom's catfish... rather impromptu and doubly delicious. She cooked it on the fly kind of, and we enjoyed it, even though it was too late to eat dinner probably. It was the 4th, I deserved a little happiness......

For Those About To Rock

Image
It's my band, SAP , as I have said before, we're getting ready to hit up Memphis' "The Stage Stop" (Raleigh). We'll be going on last of 3 bands... the other bands are "Virginia Grant" and "Who Framed Sam?" Wish me luck, and I hope I don't fall on my face after months of no gigging. ( This could be me!! How embarrassing!!) LOL!! Watching people fall is so friggin funny... That's right. Oh well stage fright all over again. But I'm just going get over it and to try to be as comfortable as I can and just do it... it is what it is, and all... I won't worry. Show starts around 9 or 10... you know how that goes, so it will probably be pretty late when we go on. I don't care, that's cool with me... we'll finish up last, and then be able to pack up and leave after. Probably try to get there about 9 I guess, and make sure we have all our stuff ready to go. Will update and POSSIBLY post photos of something if there are a...

The Monday Report

Weekend zipped by fast, probably due to our gig at Kudzu's Bar & Deli, which went pretty well. Once again, my band, "S.A.P" would like to thank Kudzu's very much for having us there, they are always very cool. The weekend, oh let's see... Friday night, after work, Richie and I headed out to a little Mexican place which was nice. Relaxed a little, he had a few brews, we came home and just goofed off at the house the remainder of the night, and I had thoughts on preparations for the next day because we were supposed to be taking band photos before the gig, and I had tons to get done (I thought so anyway). So a friend of Richie's came by for a while. That pretty was pretty much it for Friday night. Saturday, I wake up around 11:30, or close to Noon, take the normal amount of time to completely "wake up", which consists of checking e-mail, having a bit of breakfast, zoning out for a bit. Then I threw myself together to venture out shopping for cloth...

My Meez, Oh My!

Am I not the Vixen?? :) Got the gig tonight at Kudzu's... Should be fun. I'm off to shop for an outfit and "vixen" up my hair and make-up... Hope you all have a great Saturday!

Tired Like Roadkill

All is well on the home front after my extended ancient aging rituals (a.k.a. Birthday celebrations). Our Gig went really well! We got a pretty good response from everyone. As I sang, I scanned the audience, and saw lots of people rocking out. There was quite an interesting mix of people there too. Even though we had already gone over our time, the club owner asked us to do one more song! She said "Rock Me!" So we did. The sound was mixed very well, and my vocals rocked... We got much positive feedback, one of the waitresses even told me she thought I sounded amazing & wished I could come and sing her to sleep (was that a pass or just a compliment? Rockdog and Zig be quiet! LOL!). Of course, we stayed afterwards for the next act so it was late when we left... Then Mr. J was supposed to be following me so I could show him the way out. I had my co-worker, Vikram in the car and Richie had his friend Kenny in the truck. I was watching carefully, when I got on the interstate r...

Elvis Is Dead. I Don't Feel So Good Myself

Image
You guys really think you're something don't you? I mean you really have an ego, and it shows. Men have it made! You seem to handle aging much better than us... you know, 'the girls' . We don't really get this. Just about the only reason I can think of is that nobody makes you feel worthless if you aren't still '20something' anymore, or if you get gray hair (you get called suave and "distinguished"). Depending on your circumstances, people even look over your ample beer gut or your worst habits. Then there is the sexuality and fertility issue, you guys are made to feel like aging gives you more charming or virile qualities. You can also continue to father children as long as you're reasonably functional. We have an 'expiration date'. Although it is completely unfair, it's not an argument that's really worth tackling because I'm sure most of you would say... "Hey, it's just the way it is." Right? So be it. ...

Kudzu's Surely Grows On You

Image
We had a blast last night, and would like to truly thank Kudzu's Bar and Deli, Memphis, TN , for being such a gracious establishment and making us feel like part of the family. For other bands out there, just as everyone else has told us--When you play at Kudzu's, it's a comfortable, friendly environment and it's like playing in your living room. Everyone there is super-nice, and as the review states in the link above, the food is always fantastic and they have a great selection of beers too. Whether you're popping in for an after-work beer, relaxing on the weekend, or coming out to see my band, "SAP" play, you can't lose with Kudzu's... it just grows on you! :) [read the Amazing Story of Kudzu (the vine) and learn how it got so widespread.] Anyway, thanks again Kudzu's! You guys are top-notch, and we really love coming there and playing as well as just hanging out. I love those guys from the "Thursday Night Pickin Party" too, w...
