Special Brownies

We talk about our Moms a lot here on the blogs, but that's because to Chelly and to me, our Mothers were such role models and strong, hard to forget women, just like we aspire to be. Now, to know me as an adult, you would never even imagine me outdoors doing anything remotely close to building a fire, setting up tents or learning to cook in the ground or over a flame. Stepping on a snake, or lying awake all night under the stars while getting eaten alive by Mississippi's state bird (Mosquito) are things that I avoid with every ounce of my soul.  I mean,  my gosh . Girl Scouts are always doing things like cleaning up trash on the highways and getting stung by bees, singing "Kumbaya", hiking in the swelter, mucking around outside in the stinky, muddy, sweaty outdoors.  However, there was a time that I, Auntie Jax braved the elements and did my time learning survival skills, earning patches and of course, selling those famous cookies we all know and love. Things have...

Don't Use That Tone With Me!

Image
Karaoke?! Let's Go!! Well for starters, Karaoke has been on my mind lately... some friends and I have been discussing this, and there is a place that is having Karaoke tomorrow night (Thursday). She asked if I wanted to go, I said maybe but I think I should make it a definite, what'cha think? After all April 16th - 22nd is National Karaoke Week (Set for the Fourth week of April). So if I do go, what song(s) do I sing? Do I sing at all? I haven't done this in quite some time. Sometimes I'm very confident, sometimes I'm not. My voice is craaaackly at times, and I get all respiratory-itchy, and other moments, I'm all clear. We shall see. I've always kind of taken it seriously, like I wanted to sing as best I could... but I think many find the point to be making a fool of yourself and singing badly is the point? I'm not sure... I still like to try to sound good though. It's National Karaoke Week Y'all!!! The movies have depicted some fun Kar...

Get Us To The Geek

Image
Quite a lesser known fact about July 13th is that today is National Embrace Your Geekiness Day . I wish I'd known earlier, but of course what I do in a day is geeky enough, so I guess I wouldn't have a need to go overboard. However, if you are reading this and still have time, feel free to let your geek flag fly. Helpful Geek Links: Geek according to Wikipedia Embrace Your Inner Geek Embrace Your Geekiness Day - How To Celebrate How To Tell The Difference Between Nerds and Geeks Anyway, I just thought that was fun to share. I heard it when I was listening to Doreen Virtue's Daily Oracle Card Reading , just something I enjoy that gives me a lift. Don't we all need a lift sometimes... and the answer to that is 'yes' for you 'Doubty McDoubtfires'. I think that's enough geek for one day, so I am signing out. Enjoy, and remember that any day is a good day to embrace the geek within.

Ten Ten Ten

Image
Well would you look at that, I made a mid-week post! I'm doing a little better. I'm still staying quite the busy bee, and trying to better organize myself in other areas, work, personal, creative, and I have a lot of things coming my way and things I want to accomplish! So just sharing. The last couple days, I've been working on a few of these "lists of 10", no meme or anything, just something I jotted down as a post idea, and finally decided to throw it in. Why 10? Just because really... I just felt like 10. It could make for a bit more "AJ Enlightenment" for ya. So how about we start with... My 10 favorite works of art. Now, just a note that I made this a list of 10, but I have so many favorite works of art, I just narrowed it down for the sake of this shorter list. Each one I love for a different reason. Don't feel like explaining why now, just know it's a reflection of something in my soul. "Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea which...

Enjoying The Ride

Image
I realize I totally slacked off posting over the weekend. I didn't really intend to do so, but we just got so busy I never had a chance to sit down and do any writing. Not that it is a bad thing, just means I was out enjoying a bit of life, and the weather held out for it, so I rode, and rode. Friday I got my share of riding in, although nothing notable, just my own personal relaxation. Caught up to my man later in the afternoon when he was having a couple of after-work brews with his co-workers. That was just about it on Friday. Saturday, we slept in a little, then I took off solo on the bike again, rode down to my Mom's, gave her a birthday card and some little prezzies. Had a nice visit, and then got the call from Richie that everyone was headed out to have some supper, and I wanted to join, so I prepared to head back to the house, when all of a sudden, my battery was kaput. I don't know if it was of any fault of my own, as I SWEAR I didn't leave anything on, and had...

Every Monday's Nightmare

Image
Is it really Monday again and the work week has really come to slap me in the face? I have got to do something about this reality I created. Why did I not go for the tropical island or the snowy wilderness?? I guess it's meant to be for now huh. Complaint of the Day: People who send me like 20 "Fwd" joke/junk messages, one after the other. I don't really like forwards, but I deal with a few of them. I just think this is ridiculous though, one or two? Maybe... 20 in a row, torture. You're just begging me to "block" you. There goes another one!! Geez... get a life! Well, work is going to be steady and kind of hectic for the next few weeks, so much going on and an office relocation (not sure of exact date on that). I dread it though, I know change is imminent, it usually has the flavor of stale brew (hard to swallow). I guess every change has its pros and cons, but I always seem to experience changes that make everything harder to enjoy. Right now, the wo...

Some Like It Hot

I pierced my own ears a second time!!! I was fooling with my ears and just pierced 'em. Now I have 2 holes in each ear. I couldn't believe myself! I like them though. Mom didn't make a big deal but Dad hated it!!!! It didn't really hurt but about like the gun. I'm satisfied. I may I may consider liking Ken* again but I'm not sure. I'll decide later and report. he's had a collapsed lung, he's so little well not really but he's got a thin chest ...

There's Something About Friday

Image
I have spoken quite alot about Saturdays, and how Saturday is my favorite day of the week, but Friday is a close second. In fact, Friday has a somewhat "magical" feel to it in a way, given that I am not totally swamped or stressed. I wondered what it was about this day of the week that was so appealing to a lot of us, and in looking through Friday facts, there are some interesting findings. Frigg spinning the clouds, by J C Dollman Etymology The name Friday comes from the Old English frigedæg, meaning the day of Frige the Anglo-Saxon form of Frigg , a West Germanic translation of Latin dies Veneris , "day (of the planet) Venus." However, in most Germanic languages the day is named after Freyja —such as FrÄ«atag in Old High German , Freitag in Modern German , Freyjudagr in Old Norse , Vrijdag in Dutch , Fredag in Swedish , Norwegian , and Danish —but Freyja and Frigg are frequently identified with each other . The word for Friday in most Romance lang...

Don't F#%# with Chuck!

Image
I had to share this. I don't know a man who couldn't use a pair of these... Think of it, never again feel restricted from those Round House Kicks. You would be danger in motion... that is, of course if you know how to give a round house kick...? If not, don't worry you're sure to scare somebody in these. Don't You Feel Special

Image
Yeah, weird huh? After days of being evasive and unable to post I thought I would share. Don't worry, it's a quickie-post. (Yeah, I know I said quickie-heh heh heh heh). I have been feeling a lot of stress and worry this week over what is to become of our family stuff, we have a great deal to think about in regard to all of us working together to assist at home with my Father. He made it out of the hospital, and that's great, but he's in no shape to be self-sufficient. Mom can't handle it all alone, and we all have tons of stuff to do as well. I guess these things are taken care of naturally, we just have to hold fast to our knowledge that everything happens for the greater good, and strive to get through it... doing what we have to do, taking it one step at a time. So I went out at lunch time and relaxed a moment, snapped a few random photos of curious things I saw around town... hope you enjoy. First, a few snapshots of today's overcast day... nothing special....

I'm No Angel

Image
The time while I was renting Bo's house was a strange little blur. I mean, I remember everything but can't remember exact months, dates or anything of that sort. DO KNOW that my motives for renting his house were not-so angelic. He and his girlfriend were moving down to the next county for some odd reason. His mother liked me, she rented the place to me for $200 a month (ok quiet everyone, yeah that's dirt cheap!). She also left most of their stuff in the house, and Bo told me that they had a special 'hook-up' with the cable, so if I just paid the bill he said I could leave it all "as is". It was my thought and desire at the time that Bo would come by the house a lot and that somehow it would bring me closer to him. But this story is not about Bo, it's more about Me, or rather a brief encounter I had with "Frankie". I'll get to that in a minute though. Despite the fact that I had these fantasies that Bo and I would somehow get closer by m...

The End Only Starts A New Beginning

Good day to you all, this is my very first post of 2008. I put up a small one of course on New Years Eve, just well wishes and all. Then I took yesterday off, went home to Mom's, and had the usual "Black Eyed Peas" for lunch which is supposed to be good luck and all... Food was good, and two other sisters showed up so we almost had a little family thing going on... Mom seemed happy to have some of her daughters together... Deb, the one who just had a birthday on 12/28 if you recall, she brought her dog "GT" with her. Jeanne, well being such a "Big E" fan, her English Bulldog is named "Elvis", so he was with her. I felt left out not bringing my Salvador Dali namesake!!! :) Anyways, I think maybe Tink (of Pickled Beef) had planned to do something similar with the WWC this week, and I'm not sure... So I will put my official entry in nonetheless. I didn't have time to give any thought to this week's words, "Brown" and ...

Red and Architecture (WWC)

Image
Happy Tuesday! The WWC can slip up on me, and I always think I'm not going to be prepared. But with fall abound and so much beauty glowing around us with the season, it's hard not to have something to shoot with the cam these days. I had a hard time picking through my photos to narrow it down enough this time. This week's Weekly Words Challenge (WWC), as always brought to us by the always colorful, and creative Tink of Pickled Beef is themed with the words "Red" and "Architecture". Some of mine is combined, and some is it's own photo. I felt I quite a few for this week, so I hope it's not too many. Hope you'll enjoy!! Red and Architecture! Let's start with RED... This brilliant red tree surely caught my eye! Red lets you know "we're open!" Delicious Candy Apple Red I'll have some Sushi please! Red fish simply brighten up this building in the Pinch District. And now, ArChItEcTuRe! This Oriental-Style building near the P...

Testing, Testing... Is This Thing On?

I trust you're all having a pleasant Monday. 'Pleasant Monday', you say? 'Is there such a thing?' Well, Mondays (or your equivalent first day of any given work week) can always be trying, but it's all what you make it... like anything else in life. We have to stop and remind ourselves, possibly daily, to take it just one step at a time and enjoy each and every moment. I've decided that we're going to have a Pop Quiz. That's right, it's Monday and I'm giving you a Pop quiz. Aren't you glad I wasn't your teacher? :) So take out your pencils (in this case your pencils are your computer's "mouse" devices), so that you can answer today's Monday Test. Once you've gotten your results, come back and tell me how you did. Go Here for Monday's Test In other news... Mr. J and I have planned our 2nd Annual October Trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. This upcoming weekend. This time, I will be armed with my Nikon, so no worries...

Today's Only Tuesday (And WWC)

Image
I know, I know what a fancy title that is... I'm feeling quite lazy this week for some odd reason, not that I'm acting on it--I'm still getting (some) things accomplished. But, I was totally thrown off track and nearly forgot that it was time for the WWC (Weekly Words Challenge) courtesy of the fabulous Tink of Pickled Beef . If you have not yet tried participating in the Weekly Words Challenge, it's tons of fun. Our favorite, hunk o'man, Cynical Bastard submits his photos, and always has great entries... and Tink has some wonderful photos too! So go check it out, and tell em' AJ sent'cha! This week's WWC Theme words were "Posed" and "Natural". I was lucky this past weekend in getting my Mom to pose for me as she usually chases after me with the broom (I jest) for trying to capture her lovely face on film. So I had a wonderful, cooperative subject... My entries this week are not all that "clever", but they are good examples...

Mami Got A Brand New Tag

Image
Desktop Madness! Look at mine and others!! Well, I'll be a Monkey's Uncle... Or Aunt really-I was tagged by the blogging, golfing dynamo, Speedcat Hollydale who was tagged by Rolando from R playground. Speedcat is one of my newest bloglinks. He runs an interesting blog chocked full of humor and whackiness... and as you know, Auntie Jackie LOVES Whacky! So pop in and say hello to Speedo if you have time, he's a cool cat. On to the TAG! What’s on your desktop? (here's mine) My desktop probably reflects me, and my unorganized personality. It has a plethora of software shortcuts, and temporary images on it that I save just long enough to use, and I either reorganize them later into another folder, or delete them if I have no more use for them. I'm on Windows XP, this is by the way my laptop desktop too-I have 2 PCs in the back too (courtesy Mr. J's mad skillz). I'm mortified by the archaic stuff Speedycat said about HIS desktop, seems he needs a nudge ...
