On a Day Like Today

Image
"On a Day Like Today" We would awaken at Dawn and sit out on the lawn drink your coffee, extra strong, on a day like today... As we watched our butterflies, shaping clouds, in blue skies, as the breeze blows, gentle sighs, on a day like today. There would be talk of old times, remembering nursery rhymes; thoughts of those who'd left us behind, how we missed them, how they shined; Now it's just me here, I rewind picturing this, tears leave me blind; But for all those thoughts that stray, watching April chasing May, I think of all I'd love to say (to you) On a Day Like Today  By Jacqueline Wood  For Mama (my butterfly) April 18, 2017

In Time Of Daffodils

Image
I was reminded of this poem, and  felt it was a perfect time of year to recognize it. In time of daffodils (who know the goal of living is to grow) forgetting why, remember how in time of lilacs who proclaim the aim of waking is to dream, remember so (forgetting seem) in time of roses (who amaze our now and here with paradise) forgetting if, remember yes in time of all sweet things beyond whatever mind may comprehend, remember seek (forgetting find) and in a mystery to be (when time from time shall set us free) forgetting me, remember me E.E. Cummings

Where I Want To Stay

There Are Days I Don't Feel Strong, When I've Given My Love To The Last Drop, and My Hand of Friendship I've Extended So Far It Is Sprained And Sore, and I Feel So Empty. I Give of Myself, Not Expecting Return, But Sometimes Even I Deserve A Refill. :-( Thanks, my blog friends who send me little notes trying to do just that... You are loved back. I'm sorry that I am not so strong, as some days are harder than others. Some of those days I feel like writing it out, here, and some I just don't dare. I wrote a poem today... It goes a little something like this: I cut open my heart and allow you to look upon the very beat of it; Raw, fresh and blood-laden my pain belongs to me, and me alone-- For the beat of my heart, it has no Home... and loneliness is a dark and dreary shack where I rest my head, for now. As my weary eyes watch in wonder while another bright sunrise fades into a stormy night, I scramble for a flicker trying to hold on to the light. If by chance, I...

Just Not Forever (Poem For Daddy)

Image
Warning: I was feeling quite melancholy tonight, I wrote this poem for my Daddy. Oh, I did it to myself. That's one of my gifts, heavy emotion, making myself all sad... but it's o.k., I don't mind. I would rather feel, and go through pain, and come out the other side shining than never to have loved, or felt, or been so loved at all. If you knew my family, and my friends you would sure know how lucky I am. That being said, and if you have dared to go this far, then read on. "Just Not Forever" (For Daddy - 8/29/27 - 1/14/09) I know what they say is true How things appear to be but all I really want is for you to come home sit across the table have a cup of coffee we'll share a laugh or two maybe we'll even argue but you'll be there and things will be right again This world is really messed up without you here to talk to, to tell my jokes to and to laugh with oh, without your shoulder to cry on when I'm sad when things go sliding from good down to ba...

A Poem I Wrote

Image
"The Grass Is Not So Sure" The grass is not so sure. It offers forth a green, maybe two as an offering for the goddess of spring. Mother Nature blushes with her curious glory. Some trees are bold enough to open an eye, certain lovely flowers too- peeking out above the dead and gone... watching, waiting patiently for their stage cue. The sky is brighter day by day... creatures big and small come out to play. Their intuition is strong and pure, but the grass is not so sure. *In honor of Spring, (c) 2010 Jacqueline Wood

A Letter From A Long Time Ago

Sometimes I find things when I'm digging around looking for other things. Recently, I found a copy of a letter that I wrote to "Z", shortly after we ended things. I thought it might be fun to post this, you "romantics" will probably enjoy the letter and the lovely thoughts, and anyone else who has ever been in that situation might appreciate the words. Memories are all so precious, those from then and the ones that we make every day that drive us forward. Please enjoy one of my fondest memories with me for a moment. Above all, No regrets. July 3, 1997 Dearest Z, I have thought, and thought about what to write to you at this moment for months. I guess I've never really settled on it, but what you're about to read is the best I can possibly do now. On that note, I guess I'll say that this is a Thank You, Hello, Goodbye, Thinking of You, Miss You... I guess many cards all in one letter. I was always taught to give thanks first, and I thank God every ...

Illustration Through Words

O.k. I'm back... just felt the need to put a few thoughts down. Cool? Basically, I'm going to put this here to hold it, even though I have it saved at home too... A new poem I wrote the other day. I don't know if it will become a song, or just stay a poem. One never knows those types of things until they just "happen". Well, anyway, here it is. Your sex is like magick a dream within a dream but nothing is as it seems and youth long gone but just around the corner stalks us from behind. And the smell of youth is smoke and burning leaves and honeysuckle first snowflakes and afterbirth What is it all worth? What's real and what's surreal? Why have we created this place? What is going to take its place? Weapons of mass destruction A load of brain reduction Where do I begin? Where does it all end? Seems I'm right back where I started. Yeah I write in a weird way, I just take little 'notions' that come to me and let them have their way. I give cred...

Blue Moan On Monday

Image
How about that Full Moon last night?? OOoooohhhhh God it's Monday again!! (Ok, that is my official moan). Looking back, I felt quite more enthusiastic last Monday, but don't worry. My spirits are not dampened! If you are reading this, then I trust you have made it through to another one unscathed as well... or at least I hope so. I have a couple things for today, one is the song that I have been stuck on since yesterday. Now please don't make fun-I know that some people love Rod Stewart, and some may hate him. I'm neither here nor there, but yesterday afternoon, I began playing the song "You Wear It Well" over and over until I could sing the lyrics to this song perfectly. I don't know why this tune struck my fancy, it just did. I was even thinking it would be cool to do a cover of it. Unfortunately, Rod doesn't wear it well. Secondly, I am curious about something. In your work place restroom, do you have a "Favorite" stall? If so, will you ...

Dark Poetry Corner

Image
Ok, it's poetry time again! Would love your input on my latest... Grave Charade This is the Deathly time of life searching for the light digging beneath the grave to see the other side of night This is the time before we're born as we live inside the shadows still tattered and torn, waiting Looking forward to a new day outside this warm retreat when silence spills over into the noise of morbid parades Charading around they all dance in frocks of false hopes trying to fool us once again into feelings of peace and serenity Knowing that one day they'll be free just like we are now With disdainful sighs we measure time to the Death Watch Beetle's song swaying towards the exit when these seconds may become a thousand years. © 2007 Jacqueline Wood ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Stolen (A Dedication)

Image
This just crossed my mind, and I thought I would share a new poem. I can't speak the dedication. It is more important to protect an innocent season that still has a chance to blossom from spring to summer. "Stolen" (new, written by me) © 2007 Jacqueline Wood I am that same girl just hidden under skin scratch the wound open see just where I've been Once like you with hopes and dreams and thoughts of knowing all Who'd have thought when you were small you had such power to take it all take it all away? What if you knew what your existence brought? What if you knew how hard I fought, to forget it all and start so new and push away the memory that there ever was a time it was any different than the now? What would you do if someone like you changed your life forever for good or for the better? How would you feel, if he traded in your sunrise for million a rainy day? What if he too went away? Took your innocence along, could you be so strong? How about forgiveness... i...

The Soul's Journey

Image
Anyone get into 'Soulmates'? Do you believe that everyone has just one? Or do you think it is possible that we cross paths with multiple soulmates during the course of our existence? Everyone that we meet is for a reason, but I don't think that everyone we meet are soulmates of ours... However, I do believe in more than one. I believe I have had in my life (and still have) more than one. Some soulmates are friends, some soulmates are lovers, some soulmates are our families... they have a path to follow as do we, and sometimes we meet and only get to keep them long enough to enrich one anothers life, share a beautiful moment and then we have to travel on... although you might wish that it could last forever, it might not be meant to be... not this time. Sometimes perhaps we wait and pray for the time to be right, for the universe to allow us to find them and then to hold on tight... but fate must follow the story of the book as it is written, as it has been so instructed and...

Those Magic Sunglasses

I'll do a short one today, unless I think of something saucier later... hehe. Once I dated a fireman. This was the result (go ahead, I know you're gonna make fun-and if you're wondering, yes I did give him a copy of this poem): "And there you were, eyes upon me... as I rounded the corner of "Self" & "Pity" streets... You smiled, and lowered your magic sunglasses, and the world danced 'round in the opposite direction, and I couldn't stop it. Born of my strengths and my lust, you became my weakness, spinning me like a top, making me feel like the same toy of a child. What a fantastical, wild ride! I wouldn't--COULDN'T take it back and erase it; but rewind, maybe? Perhaps pause above you, as I stare into your mocking, subliminal eyes? Feeling you, as you become that 'Midnight Train' that I've so often heard about on the streets--or in a song. Somehow, I manage to make it permissable... for me--it's okay. Where does i...

I Miss My Childhood, I'm Goin Back!

Image
Oh what if we could all truly rekindle the "Wow Factor" in life? I really try to, & I'd like to think there are others out there who do the same. Let's Laugh at ourselves, make snow angels, enjoy making pictures out of clouds, 'slosh' around in rain puddles, drink hot cocoa with marshmallows and invite our old imaginary friends over for dinner. Let's laugh at the big as well as small things in life. Our perception of what life should be has become over complicated and creates too much paperwork and pain. This is in honor of childhood and all that it represents to all of us "old(er) children". Fishing around on the net, I found these 3 poems that I wanted to share with you all. "Childhood" by Eugene F. Ware It passed in beauty, Like the waves that reach Their jeweled fingers Up the sanded beach. It passed in beauty, Like the flowers that spring Behind the footsteps Of the Winter King. It passed in beauty, Like the clouds on high, Tha...
