Special Brownies

We talk about our Moms a lot here on the blogs, but that's because to Chelly and to me, our Mothers were such role models and strong, hard to forget women, just like we aspire to be. Now, to know me as an adult, you would never even imagine me outdoors doing anything remotely close to building a fire, setting up tents or learning to cook in the ground or over a flame. Stepping on a snake, or lying awake all night under the stars while getting eaten alive by Mississippi's state bird (Mosquito) are things that I avoid with every ounce of my soul.  I mean,  my gosh . Girl Scouts are always doing things like cleaning up trash on the highways and getting stung by bees, singing "Kumbaya", hiking in the swelter, mucking around outside in the stinky, muddy, sweaty outdoors.  However, there was a time that I, Auntie Jax braved the elements and did my time learning survival skills, earning patches and of course, selling those famous cookies we all know and love. Things have...

Summertime Blues

Image
The winds blow hot and ill in Memphis, the temps are literally at 99 - 101 degrees Fahrenheit (Heat Indices of 112-113+ notwithstanding). So we live our daily lives, trying not to pulverize one another, especially during times of road rage in our boiling, humid wonderland. Right now, it's early, and so quiet the only noise for me is the ticking sound of my own typing. This is the time of day that I have to cherish as quiet time for me is a super-rare commodity... Just don't get enough!! I sometimes wonder how we get ourselves into the situations we do, how our lives really come to this, and why some of us fell prey to the proverbial 'wrong turn at Albuquerque', as I always like to say. Seriously, is ANYONE out there as happy as they seem? I look around me and other people seem to have everything they want, or things just fall in their laps, their greatest desires come true. I, on the other hand feel like I am constantly on my knees with folded hands, begging. Sweeeeeeee...

Time For A Cool Change

This has been a really long, hot summer to me... I read someone's status earlier that stated they had complained about the heat in their neck of the woods, and they thanked Mississippi for reminding them of what heat really was. I concur. So, no I haven't felt a lot of relief from these insane temperatures, and it has had the effect on me of making me not want to do much of anything really. I've not even felt like blogging the last few days. I honestly don't feel like it now, I just wanted to say a few words. Today, my main objective and accomplishment was getting over a raging headache, so I wasn't feeling well for most of the day. I finally took enough Advil and a hot mineral bath, and ate a bit of supper and feel kind of human again. In short, I can't wait for fall... late this afternoon when I stepped outside it actually felt pleasant and not like I was sitting between Satan's legs. There is hope yet. Time For A Cooooool Change.

Thirsty

Image
For those of us who are a slave to the grind, we've almost made it through another work week, that's a great blessing! For those of you who don't have to report to anyone for your paycheck, well it's another beautiful day, so enjoy! Richie went back to work today after Monday's oral surgery, still felt a bit loopy he said but all-in-all it has been a swift recovery. I'm glad... I did the best I could to take care of him. So the weekend is in sight, and I'm trying to think of fun things to do. It's so hot weather-wise, and I don't mean to complain but I hate feeling sweaty and smelly. I like being pleasantly fragrant and sassy. Nothing much to report otherwise, so I will let you go with a few cute graphics about the heat, one of which I stole from BBC's blog again (he always has the funniest cartoons). So there you go. Happy Thursday. v

Tired Out

I found a "roofing nail" in my back motorcycle tire. It didn't appear that the tire had lost any air, but with a bike tire you don't need to take any chances. So I ran it over to a nearby place (didn't go all the way to the dealer), and he said that with the positioning of said nail and the condition of the tire (about 6,200 miles on it) It wouldn't be safe to try to patch. I was going to go ahead and spring for both new tires as it is a good idea to try to replace both bike tires at the same time, but he didn't have them in stock and would have to order. Therefore, I decided to go with one, just the back tire that he did have in stock for now. I can get a good few more miles out of the front one anyway, and maybe I will be in better shape and can spring for a new set of really good ones. Was just the way my day started... I made the best decision I felt like at the time. So Jimi's all set for a few more miles then, and I am looking towards braving the...

Satan's Toenails Hot

Image
I went for a ride a little earlier, and I mean the summer heat is on. I read one bank clock that said about 101 degrees, but I don't know. As long as I was rolling I was fine. Anyway, summer ain't playin around and it's not even officially here yet. Almost... hang tight. Two Days until my birthday, -insert unenthusiastic "yay" here. I am taking off but I still have to keep an eye on some work issues. How's that for slavin to th' man? Anyways, this one is short today. You guys have a lot of reading to catch up on anyways, so get started!! :)) Here's how we used to spend summers when I was growing up... I miss the innocence and ignorant joy of youth. Nothing like the sprinkler in the heat of summer. Happy Summer everyone!

Baking Is Fun

Image
Yes, baking is fun unless it is baking in the oven of the devil's favorite kitchen, Memphis... And no, once again, this is not a post about a delicious, moist, fresh-from-the-oven, chocolate cupcake. Oooh, that looks good, doesn't it?? Yummy! Don't you want to go down to your local bakery and buy one, or go to the store and bake some delicious chocolaty cupcakes now? I sure do... but I doubt I will. ;) Baking in the heat lately is what most of us have been doing. It is no fun except when I am riding through the wind on my Shadow Sabre... that's good until I get stuck at a redlight. Then I have a virtual "meltdown". Oh well, this is a quicky of sorts today, and I know how all of my readers love quickies. Weekend Summary... Friday night was pretty laid back, I basically just fixed my face, put on my do-rag, and props and goofed off with a few Self portraits. Here are a couple, just so you can see what Tomfoolery I was up to... lol "Peacock Feather" ...

Hot and Crummy

Image
This is not a post about a delicious, hot and crummy blueberry muffin! Still feelin the heat around Memphis these days. For those of you who live in a cooler climate, I am severely jealous of you guys. Heat is tough in many places I know, but I promise you that Memphis gets this type of "unbearable humidity" that makes it so much worse. I just feel totally crummy! I can take a lovely shower or bath, and get my make-up on just right , and then I step outside and instantly turn into a puddle of water. I'm not sure if it is normal, but my head/face sweats quite profusely, so my hair get soaked! I simply can't look lovely in this heat-box of a city. The heat definitely has an impact on our city's homeless, hungry and handicapped people. I've noticed lately that they have taken on a more vicious attitude altogether! -> I wish I could boast the great words of Major Charles Emerson Winchester 'The Thuhhd', and say: "I'm a Winchester Honeycutt! A W...

Heat Of The Moment

Image
Jinks had a couple of cool posts that I recently read, one of which highlighted nuts and profuse masturbation, and the other spoke sorely about the heat, and her way of dealing. I know everyone is feeling it, even in those places that we in the south have heard tall tales of that enjoy mild summers and harsh winters, I'm sure the heat is on at least 7 or 8. So we find ourselves smack-dab in the "Dog Days of Summer", right? Being from the south, I always wonder where funny little nicknames and phrases come from... so I always have to look it up. According to Wikipedia's definition of "Dog Days" : The phrase Dog Days or " the dog days of summer ", refers to the hottest, most sultry days of summer. They are a phenomenon of the northern hemisphere that usually falls between early July and early September but the actual dates vary greatly from region to region, depending on latitude and climate . Dog Days can also define a time period or event that...
