In My Mind

I've been in another R&B mood lately, I've always been very eclectic. The wouldn't allow embedding of this video, but it is really a good song. Moves me. Heather Headley's "In My Mind"

Illustration Through Words

O.k. I'm back... just felt the need to put a few thoughts down. Cool? Basically, I'm going to put this here to hold it, even though I have it saved at home too... A new poem I wrote the other day. I don't know if it will become a song, or just stay a poem. One never knows those types of things until they just "happen". Well, anyway, here it is. Your sex is like magick a dream within a dream but nothing is as it seems and youth long gone but just around the corner stalks us from behind. And the smell of youth is smoke and burning leaves and honeysuckle first snowflakes and afterbirth What is it all worth? What's real and what's surreal? Why have we created this place? What is going to take its place? Weapons of mass destruction A load of brain reduction Where do I begin? Where does it all end? Seems I'm right back where I started. Yeah I write in a weird way, I just take little 'notions' that come to me and let them have their way. I give cred...

Wired

I'm winding down, but it took a while for the buzz of being on stage to wear off. The sound was mixed much better tonight, and I feel like it went really well. Miss Nita was quite complimentary of our sets tonight, and she didn't give me any extra 'stage advice' tonight. Plus for the first time, our band collected some "door fee". That's a big deal because so far we have played for free trying to get our name out there! Very cool. Anyways, we only had one other band to play with us, so we had two (2) sets tonight, first one we played 9 songs and then took about a 20 minute break, and had a second set wherein we played another 7 songs and we were done. I was more "loosened up" I think, and felt more comfortable... Not a huge crowd, but then I didn't expect there to be a ton of people for some reason the day after July 4th. Was a fun night nonetheless. I'm starting to be quite aware of how much of my material speaks of death and destruction...

Blue Moan On Monday

Image
How about that Full Moon last night?? OOoooohhhhh God it's Monday again!! (Ok, that is my official moan). Looking back, I felt quite more enthusiastic last Monday, but don't worry. My spirits are not dampened! If you are reading this, then I trust you have made it through to another one unscathed as well... or at least I hope so. I have a couple things for today, one is the song that I have been stuck on since yesterday. Now please don't make fun-I know that some people love Rod Stewart, and some may hate him. I'm neither here nor there, but yesterday afternoon, I began playing the song "You Wear It Well" over and over until I could sing the lyrics to this song perfectly. I don't know why this tune struck my fancy, it just did. I was even thinking it would be cool to do a cover of it. Unfortunately, Rod doesn't wear it well. Secondly, I am curious about something. In your work place restroom, do you have a "Favorite" stall? If so, will you ...

Sentimental Journey

Image
Tastes, smells and sensations that strike up memories and make me sentimental... Oscar De Larenta cologne, it reminds me of all the wonderful times spent with my sister, Vickie growing up. Old Country music in restaurants, I can see my Dad, straight and tall and strong as an Ox walking into a Truck Stop on a long haul, or a family trip with us. Juicy, red ripe watermelon, takes me straight to a hot summer day at home. I can envision my Mom in her 'work jeans', sitting outside in the heat still drinking coffee, we sprinkle a bit of salt on the melon, and I can almost smell the freshly cut summer grass. Insense and certain air freshener, reminds me of living at Bo's house. Wind Song perfume (by Prince Matchavelli), I can close my eyes and see Mom getting ready for church on a sunday morning in her best suit or dress, looking like a billion dollars, me still sleeping, squeezing every last moment I could and hoping she wouldn't make me go. Classic Old Lysol (the Hospital s...

Thursday for Knowledge

Image
I spend most of my time "telling" things about myself, telling stories, ranting about current events or issues that I might encounter on a daily basis. Maybe today would be a good time to "ask" you guys something and get your input... well I guess it still involves a little bit of "telling", since i'll give you my opinion on it as well. Today found me contemplating music, and although there are unlimited topics and resources to discuss about music, I found myself thinking about the most depressing songs that I could remember hearing. Then of course there are songs that are so uplifting they make you wanna change your life, or at least take you sailing through the day with a good feeling. Then there are the ones that are so annoying that you cannot even abide listening to them for a minute (in which case I flip channels or put in a CD). So here goes... and list as many as you feel like. What is the most Depressing song you've ever heard? What's...

Songs To Aging Children

Just felt like lyrics to a song today, it's Friday and I give a little relieved "Sigh". Have a great weekend, my fellow aging children. "Songs to Aging Children" by Joni Mitchell Through the windless wells of wonder By the throbbing light machine In a tea leaf trance or under Orders from the king and queen Songs to aging children come Aging children, I am one People hurry by so quickly Dont they hear the melodies In the chiming and the clicking And the laughing harmonies Songs to aging children come Aging children, I am one Some come dark and strange like dying Crows and ravens whistling Lines of weeping, strings of crying So much said in listening Songs to aging children come Aging children, I am one Does the moon play only silver When it strums the galaxy Dying roses will they will their Perfumed rhapsodies to me Songs to aging children came This is one

One More for the Road

Sunday is drawing to a close for me, and once again the weekend has passed too fast. In remembering songs that evoke and stir pain in my heart, I also include Iggy Pop with "Candy". I'm sure i'll have more to say tomorrow... :) Enjoy!
