Youth Is Wasted On The Young

Image
Looking around me at many of the people I used to know, I have become even more painfully aware than I normally am of how old we are all getting (in numbers). "I thought growing old would take longer." ~Unknown Just a small notation, I have been going through some health issues, that I haven't exactly blasted online or on social media, my close friends and family know the details, but it has been challenging for my schedule trying to work, so I am doing a bit of a balancing act, and just keeping positive. I'm doing okay, though, if anyone reading is wondering... Maybe i'll write more about the actual situation a bit later. I am just wanting to write more regularly, anything to get myself back into the creative flow. It's hard at times. Anyway, as I began writing this, maybe a couple months back, I was just browsing around on Facebook, and searching out of boredom, like I do from time-to-time, and suddenly there it was "suggested friends"; hi...

Stay Gold

Image
It's Friday (yay!), it looks like rain, and I'm once again reminded of childhood, and all those "Nothing Gold Can Stay" moments. I always loved Happy Days re-runs so much, and of course as most of my long-time readers might know, "The Fonz" was my first 'hoodlum'. He probably played a big part in my love for Motorcycles too, even though looking back at the one he drove, mine would obliterate his (No offense Fonz). But so many wonderful moments I sat back and enjoyed the show "Happy Days". Therefore, as part of my Friday Video Chill, I wanna present the first chunk of the Happy Days Pilot, which originally aired in January 1974 (the show ended in September of 1984). Happy Days Pilot (pt. 1) Do you remember in Jr. High or High School when the teacher would plan for class to watch a film, and you always looked forward to it? They would have a class volunteer or two go and fetch the T.V./VCR Combo from the library, and we would be so excited t...

Winds of Change

Image
Life is made of many roads, each with their own set of twists and turns. It is amazing sometimes to think on just how many changes we've been through. I'm certain that each of us has our very own private collection of laughter and joy, tears, sorrows, even naughty times, and of course dreams and hopes for the future. Sometimes, however, it is inevitable not to think about moments from our past, remember certain people and events rather fondly. Every one of them is a little part of who we have become, you know... who we are today. Do you ever wonder how those from your past remember you, or remember the 'good ole days'? Wouldn't it be cool to know what they thought about it all too? I am lucky to have so many good memories. Allow me to share a recent e-mail... ============================================================ Manny, Just 4 you! :) I have a memory... it started right here at this location in the photo (do you recall?). I met this guy named 'Manny' ...

All In The Cards

Interesting quote for the day: "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be." - Kurt Vonnegut I got my drivers license at 15. That's not totally unheard of, I know but it is still rare. Plus, I've been driving something or another since I could walk so I've been driving for... a long time. Around here, drivers licenses or State IDs (for those of you who can't drive but still must prove who you are), are used for multiple purposes. You must present these to the law upon being pulled over, or going through the ever-popular 'Road Block'. Or simply 'getting carded'. The first time I used mine was when we caught sneaking into the boy's dorm at the local community college. My friend, Kathy was dead set on going over to see some guy she claimed to be friends with. As usual, I was dragged along as an accomplice. So we drive over to 'Quitman Dormitory' I think it was, parked and proceeded straight through the fr...

Sentimental Journey

Image
Tastes, smells and sensations that strike up memories and make me sentimental... Oscar De Larenta cologne, it reminds me of all the wonderful times spent with my sister, Vickie growing up. Old Country music in restaurants, I can see my Dad, straight and tall and strong as an Ox walking into a Truck Stop on a long haul, or a family trip with us. Juicy, red ripe watermelon, takes me straight to a hot summer day at home. I can envision my Mom in her 'work jeans', sitting outside in the heat still drinking coffee, we sprinkle a bit of salt on the melon, and I can almost smell the freshly cut summer grass. Insense and certain air freshener, reminds me of living at Bo's house. Wind Song perfume (by Prince Matchavelli), I can close my eyes and see Mom getting ready for church on a sunday morning in her best suit or dress, looking like a billion dollars, me still sleeping, squeezing every last moment I could and hoping she wouldn't make me go. Classic Old Lysol (the Hospital s...

Youth On The Rocks, No Ice

Started out with a bit of ice this morning, the roads were bad, I stayed home until I felt like the hazards had cleared... Nobody in their right mind wants to be out in these Memphis streets in the middle of any hazardous weather conditions. This situation turns already horrendous drivers into some sort of zoo animals playing bumper cars. The morning went off without any fatalities as far as I know. Now, I feel like I have let everyone down with not much to say the last couple days so I will throw in a story. Since my niece, Kristie had been begging, I'll do the Serial Killer one. Kristie is one of the smartest ones in our family. Of course, I say "ones" because we're all pretty smart cookies, but I admire her educational background as she has gone pretty much 'all the way'. Even now, she's on her way to getting a fantastic graduate degree. I'm very excited for her on that. She's had such a rough road in her teaching career, it will be nice to see...
