Scents You've Been Gone

Image
Something began to stir me around in my unabashedly peaceful slumber. My eyes, sealed shut were not yet ready to awaken, yet as I slowly floated back toward my small, pleasantly plump little Earth costume to which I was currently assigned (harumph!!), 'Wait what was that? What was I thinking about again..." my shifting thoughts faded into a fog as I transitioned and unwillingly continued waking from the heavy, cozy child's dreamland... My Mother, who at the time had a standing weekly appointment to get her hair done ('teased'), was letting me know it was time to get up and get our big Saturday started. The hour was early, and most times I got my fill of the early morning "Saturday Cartoons", which always included Bugs Bunny and friends, and several other classics. I remember making a 'couch cushion fort' and taking in as many of the cartoons as I could before we had to leave to run errands and go to the Beauty Shop. Like it was yesterday, I ca...

Smoke And Sunsets

Image
I love the smell of smoke from a fire... Riding down the road, freshly cut grass, people grilling, burning things, campfires, just smells like heaven to me... That is one thing I am definitely going to miss about the summer... not the heat, but the scents. Fall is still going to be great for the smell of smoke and all though. You know, people camping out, possibly still cooking out on their grills. Since I have had to somewhat "Park" Jimi because he needs to have his 600 mile service done, and I don't wanna go too many miles over the 600, then I elected to drive around on Mr. J's bike yesterday... He hasn't put on nearly as many miles as I have, so he needs some help. Therefore, off I went on his VTX 1300, such a balanced, smooth bike if I do say so myself. I almost wish I had gotten the 1300 instead of the 1100--but I have NO complaints about Jimi, he is the ultimate... and turns heads everywhere! So, anyway, I rode for a while, and just couldn't help but ge...

Forgotten Scents

Image
Springtime is the main time I get this way I think. The scents, all around me, whisking by reminding me of all the good ol' days. Those wonderful by gone days. Scents always accompany music for me, of course, so if you get the right tune and the right type of scent then it can be Legendary! :) Seems like spring brings all the good ones though, that smell of 'freshly cut grass' begins, going into summer. Makes my mind wander... waking up on a Saturday morning, hearing Dad outside running the lawn mower, and Mom inside funking up the house with that horrible "hospital strength" Lysol, so of course I headed outside to smell the fresh grass as soon as I was awake enough to function (always been a late sleeper). Certain perfumes and colognes are fabulous. My favorites are Clinique's "Happy", Calvin Klein's "Eternity", "Sunflowers"... just to name a few. The smell of a semi-sweating man in the summer with just the right kind of col...

This Is The End

Image
... of this very long, trying week. Thank you all for the words of encouragement and all about this week's "Aunt Jackie Ban" by a well-known blogger, and I won't mention any names. You may or may not have known who it was that got pissed with me, it doesn't matter now. I had sent an apology note, and tried to find out what exactly I did to deserve the kick to the curb, and I got no response. I tried... I failed, I'm moving on. His comradery will be missed, but as a few of you have pointed out, it's truly their loss... Meanwhile, I still have so many great visitors to this blog and I won't be wasting any time continuing on with my writing, fun and entertainment... I don't deserve the wasted time, and neither do you, my dear readers and 'Blog Friends'... So let's move forward. "Here's mud in your eye, you dirty dog, Your loss and I forgive you for your short fuse and your blatant misunderstanding of me." That's all I h...

Sentimental Journey

Image
Tastes, smells and sensations that strike up memories and make me sentimental... Oscar De Larenta cologne, it reminds me of all the wonderful times spent with my sister, Vickie growing up. Old Country music in restaurants, I can see my Dad, straight and tall and strong as an Ox walking into a Truck Stop on a long haul, or a family trip with us. Juicy, red ripe watermelon, takes me straight to a hot summer day at home. I can envision my Mom in her 'work jeans', sitting outside in the heat still drinking coffee, we sprinkle a bit of salt on the melon, and I can almost smell the freshly cut summer grass. Insense and certain air freshener, reminds me of living at Bo's house. Wind Song perfume (by Prince Matchavelli), I can close my eyes and see Mom getting ready for church on a sunday morning in her best suit or dress, looking like a billion dollars, me still sleeping, squeezing every last moment I could and hoping she wouldn't make me go. Classic Old Lysol (the Hospital s...
