Someone's In The Kitchen

Image
The ritual of goofing around in the kitchen was something that we indulged in quite often around my house growing up. My mother always let us "help" when she was baking, or "lick the bowl" (which was nothing more than scraping off the left-over batter from the bowl with a spoon, and utensils). But the fun we had making those old fashioned tea cakes (Mom's grandmother's recipe), and also sugar muffins-Not your average gooey chocolate type desert, but something far more special. These baked goods had meaning... sentimentality. She taught us, and she taught her grandchildren, and that's something that we will carry with us always. We never got to play around in my sister, Vickie's kitchen because her kitchen sink always looked like this ! However, when Christmas rolled around, and it was time to make the famous Hershey's fudge recipe (not that quick junk from marshmallow creme, but the real deal), then Mom had to step back and let my Dad take the w...

The Bloggings Will Continue Until Morale Improves

Image
There is a great deal i'd like to get off my chest regarding elevators. I began thinking about this when I read this post from 'Mike's Blog' regarding lack of gratitude from people when holding the door open for them, and other social faux pas. Seriously, why are you unable to mutter even a simple "thank you" or "hello" when someone smiles and holds a door open for you, or just tries to exchange a simple pleasantry? You would not believe the thoughts that pass through my head when I meet up with someone like this, who is less than pleasant, or completely unsociable upon smiling or speaking to them. Who do you think you are?? Honestly. Ok, i'm straying off the subject of the elevators a bit-but they are related because it's that type of behavior that makes me want to slam your head in the door... So next time people, when someone tries to be nice to you, would it kill you to show a little kindness back? Let me illustrate a scenario to show th...

There Oughta Be A Law

Image
Well, there probably is-or used to be. I thought I would share these "Dumb Laws", the ones that caught my eye--however, go find your specific state's Crazy State and City Laws . Some of them would even shock old Barney himself!! Specific to Memphis: • Illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians. -(I dare you to get in front of me waving anything-hehe) • It's illegal for frogs to croak after 11 PM. -(those lawbreaking varmints!) • Panhandlers must first obtain a $10 permit before begging on the streets of downtown Memphis. -(I think I will ask them for a permit next time one hits me up for a dolla or a 'solid quata') • It is illegal to give any pie to fellow diners. It is also illegal to take unfinished pie home. All pie must be eaten on the premises. -(harsh pie regulations!) And gotta note this one, as it was odd to me: Oneid...

Remembering Jimi

Image
Today in 1970 - Jimi Hendrix plays what turns out to be his last ever performance, at the badly controlled and rained out Love and Peace Festival , on the Isle Of Fehmarn , Germany . Now, I was not alive for the life and times of Jimi Hendrix, and at this moment-I was only an infant and unaware of this. However-I remain a great fan of his, and am hugely affected by his songs and his music in general. Something about him sticks with me in my own music and life as well. In rememberance of that last performance of his, and just to pay homage to his work, I would like to reflect on the following lyrics. Jimi Hendrix from Electric Ladyland (1968) 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn To Be) Hurrah i awake from yesterday Alive but the war is here to stay So my love catherina and me Decide to take our last walk Through the noise to the sea Not to die but to be re-born Away from a life so battered and torn.... Forever... Oh say can you see its really such a mess Every inch of earth is a fighting n...

If Suri Could Talk (She'd Say 'Cut the Shit')

Image
I was blogging around, checking out other sites and news articles and this (amazingly) caught my eye. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have really set their baby up for future humiliation. Imagine her embarassment when she brings home a date and he is promptly escorted to the trophy room and shown this dandy milestone of her first solid bowel movement! Please parents...these kinds of gestures will not be appreciated... Stick with bronzing baby shoes! How ridiculous and disgusting are these celebrities going to get?? That's all I have to say... See for yourself at the Yahoo News Article on Suri's First Poop . (gagging noises) Now, is it my imagination, or does this seem awfully big for such a little girl? If this is the real deal, she must take after her father (full of it!).

Back In The Day When Things Were Cool

Image
On reflecting while reading the blog I Miss My Childhood , I was inspired and reminded of many of the great things that enhanced my very own childhood. Does anybody remember Schoolhouse Rock ? It came on every Saturday, if I remember correctly, following the wonderful cartoons that aired. (Mind you, these were real cartoons, not like the ones that they have now.) I remember well the great songs that came from Schoolhouse Rock, like "I'm Just a Bill", and "Lolly's Lolly's Lolly's get your Adverbs Here". Saturday mornings used to be the greatest. I remember, I would wake up, and make sure that my Dad was awake to watch cartoons with me, whether he wanted to be awake at this time or not. Then later in the morning, my Mother would take me to town with her, as she usually had a "beauty shop appointment" to get her hair teased, and for some odd reason, I would always drink "Tab" while she got her hair done (not the best tasting diet sod...
